Welcome to my blog!

Hello everybody!

I have created this blog to share with you some of my experiences as a teacher of English for some years. I hope that they will be very useful for you especially for the students of UNIR.

All the activities are genuine and all of them have been tested with my students and they have worked really very well!

All your commentaries will be fully appreciated and your suggestions as well. I will also surf in your blogs to find more ideas for my classes.

Thank-you and….

Let’s start!

MARIA URETA

AN ACTIVITY FOR……. WATCHING, THINKING AND SPEAKING!

It is really hard to teach grammar to our students. But, Is it easier if they can be the main
characters?

This is an activity to practice a grammar point orally. The students have to think before making the sentences correctly, say the sentences and pronounce them properly.

Watch the power point and practice with your students.

If you want you can try to do this activity in class: they action the verbs and you take a picture!

AN ACTIVITY FOR…… SPEAKING!

Have you ever tried to cook in class? Why not? This is a very nice activity to be done with your students of 5th Primary.

First of all watch the video I have uploaded to have an example of how to make this activity.

After watching the video, give them the vocabulary they need: food, utensils and verbs we use for cooking. Then in pair or groups they write the recipe.

When everything is checked and it’s ok you can prepare your camera and record your students.

The results are really amazing. They have fun, learn the vocabulary and the most important of all, they SPEAK IN ENGLISH!

Try with your students!

AN ACTIVITY FOR…… LISTENING!

How can we teach our students new vocabulary? Long lists with the translation in our mother tongue? No! It is very traditional and old fashioned!

Why don’t we try with… drawings? Yes! And why don’t we revise the English alphabet at the same time? Yes! Perfect!

This is the aim of this activity: write new vocabulary of vegetables listening to a dictation of words.

The words have been previously recorded and our students have  to listen to them and write them on this sheet of paper.

Make it simpler:  they have a line for each letter.

AN ACTIVITY FOR…… WRITING!

This is a very attractive exercise for students of 6th Primary that have studied the daily
routines and they need to practice 3rd person singular.

As they are starting to write English compositions and it can be really difficult for them, I think this is a very nice way to take their pens and start writing having fun.

The only exercise they have to do is change the drawing by verbs. Don’t forget the “s”!!!!!

When they finish, they can write their daily routine following the pattern.

AN ACTIVITY FOR... READING!

This is a very simple reading comprehension for students of 4th Primary. It helps your students to classify information in a chart. It’s a way to start with reading in English and it is not the typical reading comprehension whose questions start with Whs so difficult for this age!

First, you read the text loudly in class with your students. You help them with some vocabulary they do not understand and then in silence they read it again and complete the chart.
